When choosing keywords, be specific without being obscure. Never try to optimize for a single word: instead, think of a string of words that accurately describe what you do. You can use various free online tools to get ideas. When creating new content ask yourself: what the goal of that content is? What information do you need to include? Who is your target audience? What language do they use? What questions your visitors looking to answer? By taking a moment to think about real humans and your target audience you’ll be able to create content that will not only rank well in the search engines but lead to better engagement with your website visitors. Does the website that is linking back to your website relate to your business? Make sure there is a strong relevance when acquiring backlinks. Excessive repetition of keywords, and using keywords that are irrelevant to the rest of your content, are likely to earn you a penalty

Can I Just Write Naturally and Rank High in Google?

Typically, people visit Google to help them solve a problem or they’re looking for a specific product. If you own a website that’s been around for a while, you should already be ranking in Google for a few hundred keywords. Knowing what they are is a perfect way to kick-start your keyword research. If your page title is too long (currently 400 to 600 pixels), it will get cut off in Google. You don’t want potential visitors to be unable to read the full title in the SERPs. Google is a search engine that follows links. For Google to know about your site, it has to find it by following a link from another site.

Relevance is the key issue here

The content in this area shouldn’t exceed 30 words. Never exceed 100 kilobytes on this sort of page. Web pages must contain a minimum number of words, feature targeted keywords and highlight local modifiers to ensure they appear prominently in relevant, organic search results. If you don’t know where to submit a guest blog post or what forums would be good to participate on, research where your competitors are going to get links and follow suit.

We’ve known for a while that Google isn’t the way people find content anymore. Audiences live on social, and it’s the primary source of new information. Luckily it’s usually possible to recover your visibility, or at least some of it, whether it’s a matter of asking for a reconsideration or changing your site so it meets the latest criteria. Linking out is huge. Don't be a link hoard; you're going to create content, so use it to gain favor with other people. I'll go more into depth below with specific tactics on linking out, but in general, you only have something to gain when you’re linking out. The more pages you have give you more of a chance to rank well for a more diverse set of keyword phrases: this should technically lead to more traffic from Google, Yahoo and Bing.
