A shallow, highly crawlable link structure is critical to getting all of your content indexed—follow good information architecture practices. Google has no problem telling you what you need to do to compete for their top ranking spots, just read their guide and do your best to follow through with their recommendations. Another “old school” method of building up your backlinks is to make use of Forum Posting. It is a quick, easy and sometimes even fun way to get your links out and maybe even have someone directly click on them which is always a good thing. Use it before it ceases to be an enabler of competitive advantage.

Look for Broken Link Opportunities

Add structured data markup in your website's code to include vital business information for Google to find and showcase. Analyze search engine rankings and web traffic to determine the effectiveness of the programs you’ve implemented, including assessment of individual keyword performance. The content on your site should be organized in a logical way. This is not only good for SEO, it also helps visitors on your site find other related content easily. (The longer they stay on your site, the better.) Just by increasing your search ranking and where your website places on Google doesn’t mean you’re going to get all of a sudden get that flood of traffic that you want.

Be authentic

You can signal relevancy of your content to search engines by using keywords for your image file name, alt tag, title, description and caption. You can reach out to higher trafficked websites that people in your prime demographic are reading, and ask if you can write a blog post for them. Create a quality piece of valuable content and use your bio at the bottom of the post to create a compelling picture of the products or services you offer and link to your website. Earning links from high domain authority sites (determine this with a tool like Mozbar) is the #1 thing you can do to drive visibility of your site up. If you do decide to use an image as a link, filling out its alt text helps Google understand more about the page you're linking to. Imagine that you're writing anchor text for a text link. Every search engine gives different weights to these ranking factors which is why when you enter the same search term in different search engines you will generally get different results.

More content equals better rankings and more links

Google now indexes content from Facebook, Twitter and presumably more social media platforms to come. If your timing and relevance is right, your post could directly show up in search results. Backlinks from older websites may be worth more than links from newer sites. Ranking potential is an assessment of where you can realistically hope to get your rankings to; if the top 5 websites have a DA of 90+ and your website is at 20, it is not realistic to think that you will be able to grab one of the top 5 spots in no time. Again this is not always the case, but tends to generally be a safe standard of procedure. Gaz Hall, a Freelance SEO Consultant, commented: "With so many options, many brands and marketers are left to ask: What are the best tactics for SEO? And even more, what are the strategies that will produce the best long-term results?"

Age of the domain name

While you want your sentences and paragraphs to be short, your overall content can be as long as you fancy – in-depth content is a big indicator of quality. Brands are generally most interested in gaining follow links as opposed to no-follow links because they help to increase ranking positions. But there’s a problem that has come from this. For some time now, brands have been incentivising bloggers to add unmarked paid for follow links – which is against Google and ASA guidelines. The shift to mobile devices has caused Google to change the methodology behind how it indexes and ranks websites. It is an unfortunate fact that your SEO budget will have an impact on the speed of your SEO results. A higher budget simply allows for more people working on your campaign and researching your industry and creating your content.
